Default Hinges as opposed to CA Hinges?

Has any one used these "hinge point" hinges as seen at Robart? They do look easier to install and more durable.

Thanks

Andy

I use them and like them, but I would recommend the gauge for drilling the holes.

for me they are a royal pain to install......
they work great, but i just can't seem to drill the holes straight, even with a jig[:@]

I use Great planes or DuBro nylon pinned hinges... about as easy as to install as CA hinges, but much stronger...

Personally the only thing I use CA hinges on is my foamies

I prefer the install the Robart's Hinge Points. IMHO it makes the difference between on "ok" plane and an "outstanding" plane. I feel the hinged surface moves better and is more stable. I also feel that I can get a better hinge with a smaller gap.

There is a "How-to" on installing Robart's hinge points on the RCU Magazine. You can find the article here:

Hope this helps

Hinge points all the way. I used them on my last plane and will never use CA hinges again. They install easy and look good and are very strong. Get the jig and its easy to get straight holes and I prefer gorilla glue over epoxy for installation.

Hi acgeorge,

Hinge points are great. Make sure the hinge is sealed with vasoline or similar to stop epoxy entering when gluing.

Cheers,

Colin
