Default question about my prop nut not coming off

well.....my prop dug into the cement in my driveway today, and I was trying to take off my prop nut (using one of those Vortex aluminum spinners)....and it's not untightening.....problem being...I grab onto a prop blade and then try to loosen the prop nut, the shaft ends up spinning with the prop nut, so in fact I'm just turning over the engine....is there any way that I can get this off....tell me if I need more information, I could probably describe it better if needed...thanks in advance!

Did you use any locktite or similar? I find that heating the prop nut (assuming alloy) with a cigarette lighter will help in the removal process. Just don't burn your hands.

well no on the locklite...it seems like the nut meshed onto the shaft somehow...maybe when it heated up during breakin or something, but it's not budging for the life of it....I'll keep trying with some heat!

Heat the nut and hope it expands enough to get things loose for you. Good luck.

I am reaching on this one but aren't some engines using a metric and some using a sae thread? If you got the wrong prop nut maybe that is the problem. I made that mistake once and the spinner nut stripped out very easily. That is how I found out.

Ok that worked for you but be careful with that technique as there is only so much load the rod or crank pin will take before things start to bend etc.

One way that works good for me is to use a drill--electric or cordless--that will turn the nut fast enough to go ahead and loosen it up. Works every time.
