Default RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?

For my years in this hobby, my list is mighty short ...
1) GP Trainer 60 ... before the industry could spell ARF.
1a) scratch wing for my GPT without dihedral and 6" clipped ... much easier to land.
1b) crash repair of my GPT with shorter tail moment and taildragger conversion ... had to learn sometime.
2) Bud Nosen 1/4 scale L4 Cub ... so that is how a giant flies ... learned at 8' AGL.
3) 1/4 scale EAA Bipe by Balsa USA.
3a) Added ailerons to top wing (highly recommended!) and shortened nose 3" for change over to 22cc Echo gasser conversion.
4) Lanier Fun Fly 40.
5) 1/3 scale Druine Turbulent build from Chuck Cunningham plans.
6) Nosen 40 sized Citabria ... lost to reversed ailerons on maiden (ouch!). The real hurt was the ligament damage from kicking myself in the rear.
7) Combination of the remnants of #6 (tail feathers), #1 (clipped wing), and scratch built box fuselage front ... most fun!
8) Dynaflight Super Decathlon.

On the drafting board: purpose designed/build cross country bird.

Gee, this is fun!

Have a good one!

Sabre Soar scratchbuilt

Ahhhh...another Neil Liptak fan. I have plans for the Sabre Soar and all the other "-Soar" models he came out with in the 70's and 80's.

Way ahead of his time.

I have to build one one of these days (famous last words)

Default RE: Your plane history, what models have you had?

Wow, what a job this will be! I can't possibly remember them all, but I'll try to put something together that hits the highlites.

- First model (1948?) -- a free-flight, rubber-powered stick & paper something-or-other resembling a sailplane
- many more something-or-others
- dozens of scratch designed & built rubber-powered something-or-others, many of which were Cub-like
- first powered model (1950?) -- a K&B .035 powered free-flight something-or-other (looked like a Luscombe/Piper cross breed).
- dozens of various free-flight 1/2 A powered thingy's, some of which were the pylon-mounted-wing competition free-flight shapes
- Brown Junior (well-used & feeble) .60-powered scratch designed free-flight comp thingy
- several Super Hurricane 24-powered free-flight thingy's (much better motor than the Brown Junior)
- First C/L model (1951?) -- There were too many lost/wrecked free-flight birds, so C/L was a survival tactic -- a scratch built Merlin SuperB-powered Corsair, which flew damned well for a while (I discovered that the ground is never very far away from a C/L model).
- many C/L models, both kit & home-built types, including a remarkably agile Jim Walker 1/2A-powered Firebaby biplane, a Ringmaster, a Nobler & an absolutely beautifull McCoy35-powered (later Enya 35) Smoothie
- First RC model (1958, or was it '56?) -- a plans-built Taylorcraft, with a home-made single-channel escapement system (didn't last long)
- various single & two-channel kits & home-builts that had horribly short lives -- I had a pre-occupation with warbirds (a very bad idea with the primitive radio system)
- Somewhere in the 60's I smartened up & started building Cubs & my favorite was a big red Super Cruiser, built from plans, that lasted quite a few years despite the 2-channel escapement radio. A very nice plans-built Piper Pacer also survived for a good stretch & eventually became a Tri-pacer.

Kids arrived in 1965 -- back to C/L flying for a ton of years 'cause I couldn't afford the $ or time for RC.

RC re-surfaced in 1989 & I discovered modern radio's -- absolutely magic stuff.

- first modern RC plane was a home-built trainer that looked like every other trainer -- re-learned to fly & had it for years
- 1990 -- Florio Flyer 40 Fun Fly -- an absolute killer bird that I still have in modified form
- 1991 -- Florio Flyer 60 Fun Fly -- even better than the 40 & I still have it in modified form
- 1991? -- two Hobbico Superstars (still have them as hot-rods)
- Hobbico Avistar with TT 46 Pro (still have that one as a hot-rod)
- Unknown pattern plane (bought used) -- still have it (now with a Tower 75)
- scratch pattern design (worked very well)
- 1/7 scale Pica Spitfire -- not very forgiving
- Blackhorse Spitfire ARF -- took a lot of bashing to make it look like a Spit, but it turned out to be a good flier
- 1/8 scale Bucker Jungmeister from plans
- Sig Smith Miniplane bipe
- Top Flite Gold Edition Spitfire -- nice bird
- Goldberg Super Chippy !!!!!!!!!
- GP Ultra-Sport 40 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
- GP Ultra Sport 60 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Phoenix SU 32 ARF -- sucks
- Ace Seamaster 40 --- good airplane
- 1/7 scale Avro Tutor bipe from plans
- Unionville DH Beaver (6')
- 3 Blue Movie SPAD's -- have had them for quite a while & all have survived amazing prangs
- Ski-master SPAD -- really unstable, but can do awesome tumbling aerobatics
- TwinSPAD (two TT 46 Pro's) -- it recently ate several trees & I'm not sure if I will bother fixing it
- 60-size home-built flying-wing-thing-a-ma-jig
- scratch-designed sailplane

Well from the looks of this list I must admit, I feel much better. I thought I was all alone out there. It is amazing how quickly this hobby sucks you in. I couldn't help but laugh after reading the post from Dennis. He Listed a couple of dozen planes and then states they all have motors and radio gear. He failed to mention if he was still married!

We need to form a support group. Perhaps a 12 step program where we can go for help to learn to control our addictions to flying RC's

Now I have parted with everything but the Funtana (who wants to buy a very beat up old Funtana?) The H9 Aspire, and the Extra that I can't remember who manufatured. (I did just win a bid for a Accipiter Badius to try and get myself motivated again, but with my new hopbby of hang gliding, RC has slipped down in my list of priorities.)
