Default Covering Foam Floats with Tape

Anybody have any experience with covering blue foam floats with clear packing tape? I have a set I am going to use on snow only and the instructions say you can cover them with tape. I'm wondering if that will be durable enough to protect the bottom of the floats and if it will remain stuck to the foam after awhile. If anyone has done this, I'd love to hear about how it worked.

I covered a few sets with tape but not packing tape (clear) I used the Fiberglass reinforced tape and it worked fine and held up well.
