Help with Great Planes Pivot Point Hinge.
hi.
Can anyone help me,how to drill the holes to my kit for glueing the hings?
I guess that the hole must be parallel to the stabilizer, wing and rudder?
Here is a link of the product i purchased:

Your link isn't working fo rme.
GP hinge points don't have to be perfectly parrallel to the surface. Look at how much they will flex. Your surfaces aren't going to flex that much.
Just drill the holes as straight as you can and then when you glue the hinges in--attach the surface to the wing and flex it back and forth several times. That will make all the hinges align together and keep them from binding after the glue dries.

Link no workie, but as Rcpilet says, a hinge point is pretty forgiving. Just try and get them as straight as possible and if you're off a smidge, it's ok.

Make nice straight holes the diameter of the shaft where you want them. To keep the hinge gaps small or to hide the hinges, bevel the openings to permit the hinge "knuckle" to fit into the hole slightly. To keep the hinges usable, apply a tiny drop of 3 in 1 or sewing machine oil to the hinge wire before gluing. Don't get any oil on the barbed shaft. It usually works out better if you install all the hinges in one side of a surface and let them dry before attaching the other half of the surface.

Hi!
I don't recommend Robarts hinges for anything but a scale airplane. For everything else...use Ca glue hinges which are much easier to use.

Robarts hinges are totally fine on ANY plane where you want to use them and have enough gluing surface to make them hold.
They do come in different sizes, ya know.
Are you saying that robarts are a bad idea on a Giant Stick? I wouldn't put CA hinges on a plane that size.
What about a 4*120? It's not scale, but it's big. You saying that a person shouldn't use robarts on this plane simply because it's not scale?

I dont use anything but hinge points. RObart has a pack that comes with a jig and drill bit to help you make the holes. To me thats the easiet way to go. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXADE6&P=7
I dont agree with CA hinges being any easier. With the pin hinges they always line up perfect for me and with the jig they are super easy. All the CA hinges I installed it was a chore to get them lined up perfectly. I also think they look a lot better.
I install them with gorilla glue and they would be impossible to pull out. I think hinge points far surpass CA hinges in everything but price.

Hi!
OK! ...just forgot ...really big airplanes!
But ..there is a reason Ca hinges are used in all ARF kits (besides being cheaper than anything else)...they are easy to use.

I want to ask you if these hinges are good for installing them to a Greatplanes Extra 300 ARF 40 size plane?

YES.
I put hinge points in all of my planes. The last ARF I built came with CA hinges but I replaced them w pin hinges. To each his own... but I think pin hinges are great for 40 sized planes as well!

RE: Help with Great Planes Pivot Point Hinge.
Kostas1,
I just had my first experience using Hinge Point hinges. I found that following Robart's instructions exactly did NOT work out. My first control surfaces ended up a little stiff (before gluing, just to be clear). Basically, Robart says to mark and drill the holes on both surfaces first, then glue the hinges. Don't do that. Mark your holes on the movable surface first, drill and insert the hinges. (This may be stating the obvious, but there's no need to glue at this stage.) Next, draw the centerline across the length of the mating surface on the plane. Hold the movable surface up to the mating surface such that the hinge knuckles are up against the line you just drew. Then mark the hole locations on the mating surface exactly at the center point (no pun intended) of the hinge knuckle. It works perfectly.
I hope this makes sense. I'm not good at writing instructions.
Thanks,
Paul

RE: Help with Great Planes Pivot Point Hinge.
Thank You Paul,
I am just at the point of having to transfer the location of the drill point from one piece to the other now. You suggestion makes sense and will do me well on my plane.
Thank You So Very Much,
Wayne
