RE: C/G
how elaborate do you want. I remeber trying to come up with a decent set up with a couple dowls and a couple feet of 2x4's. I found it more cost effective to just get a GP CG machine, inded up being about 4 bucks more for this tool.
Using the ol pair of pencils method on my Sea Fury I thought my CG was close enough to try flying. upon setting it on the CG machine I found my CG off 1.5 inches tail heavy. I'm supprised the model even flew. This is a 60 sized model. Any 40 sized ship the pencils or your finger nails works pretty good

Tie a string around the prop nut, run it up to a cup hook on the ceiling and then down to the tail. Roughly level the suspended plane. Some planes will hang better upside down. A plumb-bob from the cup hook will then point right to the CG. You will also get a good idea of what the lateral balance is too.
