Gas Engine, or 4Stroke for 1/6 Scale P - 51
Dear RCU,
I plan on scratch - building a 1/6 scale P-51 Mustang within a year or so. The wingspan is 74" and the total weight is 14 pounds when it is complete. I was wondering if there is a small gas engine out there that would work in this plane. The plan calls for up to a 1.5 four stroke engine. I will most likely put one of the 1.5 four strokes in it ....... unless I can get a small gas engine for it. If anyone knows of a small gas burner that would work for this future project, please let me know. Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks ! [:-]

Anything in the 25 CC range would be compatible with a 1.5 glow. you'd get close to the same amount of power, but you'll be increasing the weight quite a bit. Why not just go with a Saito 150? Lots less weight, lots more power, and lots less fuss. Sound is phenominal, also. Of course, glow fuel is expensive, and the 1.50 likes it's share, but what a great engine. Another choice, if you want more power, would be the 1.80!

Or you could use a slightly larger gasser with electronic ignition like this:

Sounds like a Pica kit. KEEP IT LIGHT! Mine tipped the scale at 19.5 pounds. Flew like a dead duck. All those ply ribs need lightening holes as well as the formers. The engine compartment is rather small, even for a 160fx.
