Looking for some input on making carbon push rods.
I just got a piece of .196 tube with .121 ID. Read that 4-40 fits this size.
What is the best way to attach clevises, or to control horn?
Which is better, carbon tube or rod.
It's going on a 25% Yak.

Will a piece of threaded 2-56 rod glue into the end of the rod? You can thread the clevis onto the threaded rod.

The bigger carbon rods, people have used pieces of dowel to adapt down to the threaded 2-56 rod.

You can by the threaded rod in 12" pieces and 2" pieces

I built mine for my Pitts 12 out of the .196 carbon fiber tube. A piece of 4-40 threaded rod will slip down inside the tube just fine. I cut my 4-40 rod to 3.5 inches and used JB Weld for the adhesive. I have a little less than an inch of rod sticking out the ends, so that leaves almost 2.5 inches inside for a good tight bond. After the JB Weld had dried, I put 1 inch long pieces of heat shrink over the ends of the carbon fiber tube and shrunk it down, to lessen the chance of the ends of the tube splitting out. Some use small pieces of aluminum tubing for this also, but the heat shrink works well.

What I did on my GIant stick was to take the same sized carbon fiber tubes, and just slip them over the solid 4/40 rods. Now, there is a solid pushrod all the way through the carbon fiber rod. The carbon fiber is just there to help stiffen up the metal pushrod. The CF tube was glued into place with some thin CA. One end of the pushrod was threaded, the other end got a solder on clevise.
