How does a variable pitch prop work? Not the adjustable pitch but i.e. 15x6-10 ? Are they more efficient?

They are typically called "progressive pitch" props. They are supposed to maintain efficiency over a range of rpms equating to having good thrust combined with good top speed. I searched and found a bunch of threads here on RCU talking about this.
