Default How long will glow fuel last?

Forgive me if this has been asked before but how long will glow fuel stay good for usually. I've got a jug that was opened about 2 1/2 years ago and has sat unused because I wrecked my plane. I finally got a chance to put another one together this weekend and I need to know if I should be expecting to make a trip to the hobby store before I try to test run the engine.

If the lid was on tight so that moisture couldn't get into it, it's probably ok. It won't hurt anything to try it. If you have any issues with your motor with it then you may need a new jug of fuel. But it's not going to do any permenant damage if you try it.

You may find this thread on fuel quite interesting.

Also, here is a link on the [link=http://www.uoguelph.ca/]University of Guelph[/link] website showing what was an AMA fuel safety alert about old fuel.

Another fuel info link there.

They have some interesting general R/C info there.

Your 2-1/2 year old fuel is probably okay. I have used 2 to 3 year old fuel that was fine. It was stored well in a cool dark place and had very little exposure to the air. I tried using some fuel that was 12 years old and I went through a month of hell with engines that seemed to tune okay and run fine on the ground, but would just shut off sometime in flight nearly every flight. New fuel cured all those problems for me.

I've had fuel (in metal cans never opened) that worked well after well over 15 years of moving back and fourth across the country. I think that if it is sealed and not exposed to ultraviolet light, it should last for many years.
