Default RE: plane engine vs. heli engine

The major difference in heli engines is the large heatsink
head. For some manufacturers that is the only difference
between heli and airplane models.

In some others there are differences in the carbs since
helis spend more of their time in the mid range.

A regular airplane motor would likely overheat in
heli duty due to the restricted airflow.

Generally speaking heli motors work fine in airplanes
but the reverse usually isnt true.

Yep, if you ran it rich enough to keep from burning it up it wouldn't be able to get out of its own way.

Also the crank shafts on many air plane engines are longer than their helicopter counter parts and may or may not fit in the frames when the clutch and fan are installed.

If you are going to look to save money like that, consider something other than helicopters.

yep heli's are a bottomless pitt when it come to financing them. The engine is the cheap part. it's the 30+ bucks a for a set of blades and the 30% nitro that's gonna hurt. minor crashes cost over 100

again the main differance is the shorter crankcase and larger head. Don't run an airplane engine in a heli
