Want an ARF or a kit? Any of the 40 size Cubs would fit the bill. Great Planes kit or ARF, Hangar 9's new PNP (the ARF version) is very nice, and Sig has an exceptional 1/5 scale kit, all will fly very nicely with the .65 Saito. I have the Sig with a .65, and the H-9 Cub with a .72, but it would do fine with the .65. There's plenty of power for anything a Cub normally would do, and a little more. Wingspan on these is in the 80-85 inch range. The Sig kit and the H-9 ARF have two-piece wings and functional struts, easy to transport.

Another thought--if you want something a little different, and are willing to build a kit, the BUSA Bristol M-1 will fly with a .65, nice easy flying plane, looks cool.

If you want a scale type then a cub would be ok but their ground manners can sometimes be troublesome. A slow Sunday flyer for your engine IMHO would be a Kadet Senior, Telemaster, Flying King[Bruce Thorpe's kit plane], or an old "HOG" would be nice too.

I would build a 4-60; the Doc Matthews design from the 1/86 issue of MA. Not to be confused with the SIG Four Star series. Ace kitted the Matthews series including bipe versions. They are just so much fun to fly with 4-strokes. They will putt around like a trainer, but still do enough aerobatics to be fun. And they were designed specifically for 4-strokes.

Hi Fred, I have a NIB Senior Kadet ARF but don,t think the Saito 65 will fit in the cowl . Have you tried one?

KHODGES, Not sure I can handle a Cub on the ground- At 78 yrs old my thumbs don't work as fast as they should, I was out of the hobby for about 40 yrs & just started flying again 1 1/2 years ago.

B B B, Ace no longer sells the kits. They do come up on eBay often. The best way is to order the plans from AMA's plans service, #00499. It's a very basic design and could be "kitted" in one evening with a scroll saw; the only thing to cut out are the ribs and the liteply fuse sides. Here's another pic from AMA:

B.B.B. I have flown a senior with a saito 80 [same general size as a 65] and the only concern was prop clearance. It was a kit not an ARF. I can see where the cowl might be a tight fit for anything bigger than a 46 two stroke. A friend of mine has an arf with a Saito 56 in it so I'l look close to see if it would accomodate a bigger engine. Another plane you might consider is the World/Airborne Super Frontier[their version of a Kadet Senior-well made and a few dollars cheaper than sig and it flys very good].
