Default brushless set up?

How do you know which lipo pack to set up with which esc and motor. I dont know what setup to pick for the maximum performance. I have a maxi motor, a 30 amp speed control, and 3 cell lipo, and it doesnt seem to put out as much as it should. I watched videos of a CR 1 PRO with a $15 motor and it would go straigt up. I spent a lot more and my CR has no vertical, it will only hover within the first 2 min. of flight and then it doesnt have enough power to even do that.

Default RE: brushless set up?

Do You mean Axi or Maxi Motor?
What is the motor model number?
What is the Kv rating (RPM per volt)?

What brand battery?
What is the Mah capacity?
What is the C rating (discharge rate)?

What type and size propeller are you running?

Finally, what is the all up weight of your model?

We need answeres to all these questions in order to help you.

Default RE: brushless set up?

It is a Maxi 12 brushless outrunner-940rpm #23715. I have a 9by4.7 prop on it. I am not sure about the battery because it doesnt have anything on it besides a warning label. I bought everything from rc-dymond. They have a website, but I dont see my motor on it. rc-dymond.com. The battery is one of the cheaper ones on their, so its either the 2000 10C 7.4V or the 900 10C 7.4V, most likely the 2000. I dont have a scale, but I think its close to 14 ounces.

Default RE: brushless set up?

A 3 cell lipo is 11.1V, not 7.4V, (3.7V per cell). If you are running a 7.4V lipo it's not enough. I have a CR-2 with a cheap e-flite 370 and a 1047 with a 10A ESC and a 3 cell lipo....pulls vert no problem even when the batt begins to slow a bit.

I have another charger plane...(temecula yak) with a Hacker 20-26m and an 18 A esc and it is ballistic!! with a 20$ 3 cell lipo (1100 MAH).

Hope this helps you. I was bedy bedy confused too; just 6 weeks ago.

I think foamies are better practice than sims!!

Yep,
Agexpert is correct!
If you are only running a 2 cell pack, it is not enough.

Regarding modern electric planes:
If I knew 3 years ago, what I know now, I would have saved hundreds of dollars in unecassary purchases!

RCU is a great place to ask questions.

Ask those who have been there! We will help you avoid costly mistakes, and We are eager to help!

As for running too small of a pack, Now you have an excuse to buy another battery for your CR-1!
And...and....Another plane for your little 2 cell pack!!!!!

Default RE: brushless set up?

My bad, I ment to put 11.1v. I was just copy and pasting off the web site. So, my problem is not solved. Sorry for the confusion. Its the 1300 10C 11.1V 96g for sure this time. Maybe the 30 amp speed control is to big and it just drained the battery to fast. The only thing is, the battery seems to be fine; I still get farely long flights. So confused. Thanks for trying to help.

Default RE: brushless set up?

sj3,
The 9x4.7 is a small prop for that plane/motor.
At 950 Kv, it will not spin that prop fast enough for vertical acceleration out of hover.
Try an APC 10x3.8 and a 10x4.7 You will see a dramatic improvement.

Your speed control is not causing the problem. All though, a 30 amp control is overkill.
The weight of the speed control may be an issue on smaller planes. But on the CR-1, it should be fine.
It could be that the speed controllers timing is set for an in-runner. That will cause an out-runner to not run up like it should.
Look at the instructions for your speed control and double check your set up.

Let us know how it goes,
Doug

I didn't think about that, thanks. I will go get those props.
