removing old Ultracote
Currently stripping old Lemon Yellow Ultracote from a 1/4 scale Swick Taylorcraft and recovering with dark yellow Ultracote.
How in the heck do you get the old covering off completely?
When I start to remove the old covering all I get is the top transparent layer and the color/adhesive stays on the plane. I have tried sandpaper but it just softens the color layer and it still will not come off. It's just like the covering has been painted on.
Any suggestions??

RE: removing old Ultracote
I always use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive and pull it off. Remember that when applying the coating you use heat to cause the covering to stick.
Just try to pull up a small portion and be careful to apply the heat just behind were you are holding. Watch the fingers. Sometime I use pliers to hold the covering and pull it up when the adhesive softens.

Hi!
Use a Heat gun!
....But it can't be Oracover if the paint is separated from the plastic film. Oracover has paint and film molded together. So it is very easy to remove it just by heating with a heat gun.
Regards!
