Default Stability-gyro or autopilot?

If you have a plane with marginal stability, are there advantages-or disadvantages- in using a gyro on each axis or using an autopilot? Have used Futaba PA1's with good results, but you external sensor and lighting has some effect. Never used a gyro and most of what I've seen advertised are used for rudder control-or nose wheel. Any advise?

gyros work on all axis as long as they are posistioned and adjusted propperly. however, moving the CofG forwards is much cheaper
