CONUS is the Continentinal US. This excludes Alaska and Hawaii. The only way I have seen big planes shipped is in large boxes. Not sure how else you would ship them. Boxes are usually wood.

You ship a big plane in a big wooden crate made out of 1/4" ply:

Anytime I've seen a plane shipped via crate similar to this, I've always seen the prop stud secured to a small piece of wood to keep the plane from shifting fore and aft while being shipped.

The least expensive way to ship large and/or heavy items is by Greyhound bus. You bring it to the bus terminal and the person receiving it picks it up at the bus terminal. There is a BIG difference in price between Greyhound and other modes of shipping.

You still need to put the large plane in some kind of crate to prevent possible damage even if you ship via Greyhound bus. Yep, I've had good luck receiving planes shipped via Greyhound.

I just received a .60 sized plane shipped via Greyhound. The crate was a frame of 1" x 2" wood with stringers placed to hold the fuse, wing and 2 boxed engines. All were in bubble wrap and taped to the stringers then the entire frame was covered with cardboard (used UPS shipping boxes). On the first try, a Greyhound "go - rillah" managed to crush one end of the box frame but no damage to the contents. The shipper re-built and re-covered the framework, and it made the trip from Ohio to Alabama in three days with no damage to the contents.
