Just for fun, who has the SMALLEST AMA #?
This may tell your age, but I was just curious to see just how small the numbers go. Mine is so big I can not remember it. I saw a low 4 digit in another post on here so I thought I would give this a try.

AMA #
Hey Agwings,
A guy in my club let his AMA lapse. When he rejoined many years later he requested his old number and they gave it to him. You should try it yourself.

Low AMA numbers
Three digit numbers are reserved for Life Members. Of course, if there are more than 999, there will be some four digit Life Members out there too.
You can get your old number back....call AMA Membership Services and request it. No reason you can't get it back if it is available.
Mine is 2045
I'm not a life member, but that's pretty low.

An older gentelman at our club is # 101. I will not post his name without his permission but he was number 1 behind the reserved first 100

Mine is 1455, got it back in the 30's, can not remember exact date. I let it lapse while in the service in the 40's but they reissued my old number when I rejoined in the late 40's.

AMA Numbers
As I recall, originally, 1 & 2 digit numbers were for life members and 3 & 4 digit numbers were for contest directors. Regular members had 5 digits. This is probably all changed now since we have so many more members.
My original AMA was 32806. I lapsed for a while after I graduated from college and re-joined with 45531. When I became a CD in 1967, they gave me the 3 middle digits of my number, 553. I know, 3 digits and a repeat.
For several years now you can buy a vanity number just like a car tag. I knew one person who had his last name as his "number."

Maynard Hill I believe still has # 23 and is still active. See Dave Brown's column in one of the late, but not last Model Aviation.Magazine's.

My first # was 14959 in 1957,then 215 in 70`s as a CD. Had a lapse. When rejoined that # gone, 14959 gone also, they had 14958 ,it belonged to USAF buddy killed in C-124 crash in Spain. So now I am 14958 & I feel that when ever I put up a flight my old buddy is with it. Maybe some day somebody will put up a flight for me.>>>>>>>>>>> big max 1935

I tried to get my old membership number back from the 50's, but a nice gal at AMA (Yolanda Jones) told me that they have no records prior to 1970.
