O.S. Max SF .61 Engine Questions
I helped a friend of mine clear out some old boxes and found a never used, in the box O.S. Max SF .61 engine which I bought off him for a steal. It doesn't have a muffler or a carb so I have to pick those up but I was wondering if anyone has any information on this specific engine (strengths, weaknesses, setup, gotchas, etc.) as well as what type of carb to pick up and a general price. I plan to bolt this thing onto a GP Venus 40 in the coming months (please don't turn this into a holy war with what engine should go on a Venus 40. I've already read all of those posts ).
Thanks in advance!

RE: O.S. Max SF .61 Engine Questions
If its a ringed 61 SF then its a keeper. The ringless ABC (AAN) SF
had a tendency to peel the liner.
They take an OS 7L carb and mine runs great mounted on a
scratchbuilt Ultra Sport 60.
This is the long stroke 61 and is happiest running in
the mid 11 thousand RPM range. Mine does 11400 RPM
turning an APC 12 X 7 on CP 15% fuel.

RE: O.S. Max SF .61 Engine Questions
The OS Max SF .61 is a GREAT engine!
I have been flying one for over 15 years on various airplanes.
I crashed it on an asphualt runway and broke the carburetor housing.
Other than that, has never given me a bit of trouble!
I have been flying it with a carb from a Thunder Tiger Pro .61H (I wore out the Thunder Tiger Engine, Too many lean runs!)
As for a muffler, I am using a Macs Muffler that I bought at a swap shop for $10.00
The carb bolted right on. With the new carb and muffler, I got a good gain in perfomance .
I have never tached the engine, but their was a very noticable difference in vertical performance!
Now the .61 FS is going on a Kangke Sukhoi. You can never have too much power!!!!
