Discharging Battery
Hi, I was wondering if someone has a good way to discharge a rechargable battery. Usually when I fly the battery of my ep airplane is only discharged half-way. I've heard that you're upposed to discharge it fully before the next charge.

RE: Discharging Battery
If you are using peak charger, no need to discharge between charges for NiCad or NiMh. If LiPo definately no discharge required. On NiMh and NiCad an occasion discharge to 1 volt/cell followed by a 16 hour slow charge (slow being defined as charging at 0.1C) will often help by equalizing all cells to bet max energy out. Check out rcbatteryclinic.com for some good info on how to care for your batteries.

RE: Discharging Battery
You don't need to discharge it completely after every flight, or day of flying, but you should cycle them every month or two. There are several dischargers and cyclers on the market, and I have a couple. I have an MRC SuperBrain 969 Pro that will charge and discharge both Tx and Rx batteries, and also a Hobbico Accucycle Pro that does both Tx and Rx. The Accucycle is easier to use and cheaper, but both will work with NiCd and NiMH batteries. If you use LiPo's, there are conditioners made for them as well, and as far as I know (not much for LiPo's) they don't really need cycling and should not be discharged below a certain critical voltage.
Cycling your NiCd batteries will make them last longer and help them hold a full charge better.
