Default Thanks rryman and jerrysat

I got the coordinates posted in my program guys, thanks a lot.

That still is just a start, 26 fields so far.

I will update the files on my RC homepage with the ones I have this week.

Keep em'coming folks, before long I won't have any reason not to have a field to visit no matter where I am in the U.S.

Haven't heard from any of our friends out there in the rest of the world. Come on, wouldn't you all love to have one of us Yanks show up at your field out of the blue

Default Created a Map and Posted

I have updated the files on my RC home page in the documents section. I also built a map you can click on in the LINKS to see how they are stacking up.

I think the count to date is 41. I used some of your RC Club maps and found the coordinates by doing it that way. Some of these may not be exact, but I bet you could see the parking lot from any I have posted.

Keep them coming.........

Hopefully after it starts to warm up for those of us in the deep freeze right now more of you can take a shot for me when your at the field.

Thanks

yeah, it is a great flying site and club of 200 + acres ! I am the new VP for this club to, and we are going to try to put some nice events together this year. We will host the Profile Brotherhood Fly in on March 15th and 16th this year. This should be a real 3D fest with pilots from all over the country.
Let me know the next time you are in town, and maybe we can arrange some flying together.

Does this picture look familiar ?

Default Hey Texas 3D - I might be down there

In March. Will have to check the calendar again. If it turns out my meetings are the week before or after, I should be able to alter my plans a little

If I can make it I will make sure I let you know, thanks for the invite.

Yea, the picture looks familiar. Left row of tables, nearest one to the fence may still have a few cheek prints in it.

Default coomarlin - I'd be glad to.

My web page requires you to do a quick join before it'll let you download from there. Please feel free to do so if you want, that's what it's there for.

I am looking for an e-mail address for you but don't see it anywhere.

Send me an e-mail at [email protected], and I'll reply with the wpt attached. I think were up to about 45 sites right now.

Hey gregg.

Any progress figuring out a way for Garmin users to import the waypoints?

I've been reall busy lately and haven't had much time to look into my options. But I was thinking there might be some type of aftermarket software that can convert mapsend data into mapsource data. Is anyone aware of such a product?

I love my Garmin Etrex Vista and I love the functionality of the Mapsource software, but I don't like the fact that they limit the type of data that can be imported.

Does the Mapsend software allow for various types of waypoint imports?

I think there should be some kind of universal file type across the various GPS platforms that would allow people to at least trade waypoints.

Default Hi Coomarlin

I had a chance to test 3 different Delorme software platforms, two Micro Soft, and two Magellan.

The Delorme and MS packages handled different GPS units, but none had upload or download waypoint capabilities. They were mainly for plotting your position on their program.

The MapSend program created my Magellan is probably like the MapSource program you mentioned for the Garmin. They were made to work with that specific hardware. The MapSend wpt file is a proprietary code, so you can't just open it with Excel or other. I would imagine the MapSource has the same limitations. I did have an old copy of Magellan's Map 'N Track I tried. It does allow me to open up the file in Excel.

I have a few more things to check, and also some contact's I will now ask for help for a universal program for waypoint sharing.

Keep your fingers crossed.

I am still interested in any coordinates anyone, anywhere in the world, would like to share representing the location of their RC Flying Field. Last count I had 48 sites located.......

Hi gregg. I talked to Loy over at Garmin and he agree'd with me that it stinks the way there is no waypoint sharing capabilities built into the major manufacturers software packages. He said the the Mapsource Engineers have been notified on several occasions but they already have a huge "to-do" list. He said he thinks it will happen down the road, but not right now.

Anyway, he gave me a few places to look for 3rd party software and I think I have a temporary solution. There is a freeware program called GPS Trackmaker . You can upload the waypoints from your GPS and save them as a Garmin PCX5 file. You'l have the option to select which version of PCX5 format to use. Just select the newest (2.10) version.

I tried it earlier and I was able to import it into mapsource. So if you want to do that and send me the PCX file feel free to do so. After I import them into mapsource I could then save them in .mps format which I could make available for you to use on your website if you wish.

You still have my e-mail addy?

Cool program - Thanks for the link. See your regular e-mail for file Appreciate you adding to my documents page. If you can't just e-mail back to me after you have processed.

Gee - this is kind of getting away from RC if you dropped in and read these last few posts, sorry folks.

This is still an attemp to gather as many coordinates for your RC Fields.

Please keep them coming...........

Default Aerial Shot

Thought this may add some interest.

http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/address.aspx

If you put in the address of your field (in the USA) or an address near it, then click on 'aerial view' and you'll be able to see an aerial view of it...proably within the past 4-5 years. You can also do this for your house!
