Default Whats the Latitude Longitude of your field

My present job involves using GPS equipment, and I used it in Search and Rescue for 15 years before retiring from that.

I thought it might be interesting to see how many coordinates we could get put together with field names and any other info you would like to share.

If I start seeing enough responses from this I will put an Excel spread sheet together I can share with for those who want it.

This is also good info to have posted at your fields in case you need to call Life Flight. Believe me, they love this kind of data

Here are a few of the ones I have gathered.

My club - Flying Circuits, Findlay, Ohio
N41 06.863 by W83 35.700
Elev. 732'

Flying Tigers, Toledo, Ohio
N41 36.605 by W83 46.656
Elev. 663'

Larks Field, Lima, Ohio
N40 48.457 by W84 15.080
Elev. 797'

Weak Signals, Michigan (north of Toledo)
N41 49.692 by W83 31.741
Elev. 636'

Sorry about lack of club name guys, Tiffin, Ohio
N41 09.862 by W83 03.999
Elev. 781'

Default Hi Steve - Thanks for the first reply

I guess I should have given a couple of more examples of coordinates in my original thread.

Jut so we don't get off on the wrong foot and have folks trying to use this info, and having trouble with it...........

If you use
N39 14.672'
W80 22.718'

the alternative would be to use
Latitude 39 14.672'
Longitude -80 22.718'

The reason I bring this up is it's easy to get the Lon/Lat mixed up. If you drop the N/W, you should always precede the Lon with a (-) negative sign, at least if your in North America, otherwise your coordinates may end up in China.

Default Got a list started in a Magellan Meridian GPS

I have downloaded my coordinates from a Magellan Meridian into MapSend Topo and I have added the two fields posted, makes a grand total of 18 so far

If this thread takes off, and you have a compatible GPS, I can send you the .WPT file to upload.

This can really make it easy trying to find those new RC Fun Fly sites for the first visit if your using a GPS mounted in your vehicles

Please send in what you have.........

We fly from an unused runway at an ag strip. The Cedar Lake VOR is at the field if you have an air map.

After you've collected a bunch of coords I would be interested in have you send me the .wpt file. My Garmin Etrex Vista will accept waypoint files from your magellen. Would be neat to have. You've come up with a good idea

Default Coomarlin - I'll be happy to send you the file

I just hope enough folks respond to the thread to make it worth while. Depending on how many I could accumulate, I might even ask AMA if they would be interested in it.

I'm kind of a tech geek (so I've been told ). I am running two Meridian's in my van right now and have used them several times to find fields I have never been to before.

I just tried to attach the WPT file to a reply and it blew it out saying it wasn't compatible for an attachment, so I will have to send the file by e-mail when it get's large enough. I am also going to store it as a document to download on my MSN Group homepage (see my profile for link).

Please keep them coming folks.........

Cool. You could also zip the file. RCU allowed the upload of zip files if I remember correctly.

Stu Irwin, RCModler and RC Report columnist had been doing this a number of years back. You might want to contact Him, he may have plenty of info for you.

Default Several files posted now

I have posted on the Documents tab of my home page 3 identical files as far as content.

They do however have different extensions for use with different programs and GPS's.

There is a .WPT, a .LMK, and an .XLS for use in Excel.

As I hope this post grows I will update each of these files with the new data provided.

Default Hi RKramer - If you think it could help

make it easier for folks to post coordinates I'm all for it. So far I have just been transferring everything over by hand to my program which is no big deal. The main think I want at the end is a file I can upload to my GPS or Mapping Software without much hassle.

JEMO - I got a reply back from Stu and he said he didn't have anything like that, but thanks for the lead

Thanks All

Default Hi Sunuva - Appreciate the help

I did collect the coordinates for the Wing Masters Field when I came down to visit.

I haven't had a chance to come to the field at Wright Patt if thats the other one. I think I'm on about my 6th visit to WP since we moved here in 99, always a must see for family when they come to visit.

Let me know and thanks

Gregg
