I would have it shipped Greyhound Bus line if you have a station (place where they pick people up/drop off people) that is close to you. More info. can be found here:
http://www.shipgreyhound.com/

I have also had good luck with DHL. Way better then UPS and FedEx. The price will depend not so much on weight... but more on size of the package.

Hope this helps

Hi MV,
First of all, the Funtana airframe probably weighs 5-6 Lbs. By the time it is packaged, it will weigh 20+ Lbs.
Having shipped hundreds of R/C airplanes (from 1/2A to a 36 Ft B-36) I can tell you the best and cheapest way.

Heres the deal:

1. Find a packaging suppy wholesaler.
Buy (2) wardrobe boxes (they are 48"x24"x22" )
and (1) 3'x250' roll of bubble wrap and a high quality roll of tape.

2. Remove landing gear and prop
Wrap parts w/ bubble wrap
Put the parts in one box
Cut the 2nd box in half
slide box end over 1st box.
fill voids w/more bubble wrap.
Tape boxes together w/ plenty of tape.
Spray paint FRAGILE all over box in huge letters.
Label boxes with both his and your names, addresses and phone numbers.

3. Take boxed plane to Greyhound ( http://www.shipgreyhound.com )
Ship plane to Greyhound station nearest to you.

4. You go pick up your new plane!

I have shipped over a hundred planes this way. total cost is will be about $110.00 including materials.
I have also shipped over a hundred planes by other carriers. Greyhoud is about 1/3 the cost of UPS, Fedex, DHL and Forward Air.

Greyhound has never damaged one of my planes. I cannot say that for ANY other carrier PERIOD.....

Good Luck!

Take a weekend off and each drive half way. No damage unless you ding it yourself. Take the significant other and make it a special trip. In the long run you will make out for those weekends spent at the field.

I did this.

Jim,
I'm glad there are smart guys like you in this hobby.
I would NEVER have thought of that!
But, now I can buy an airplane and make my wife happy too!
Hope she doesn't think that getting another plane is my only motive though...........

I took my wife all the way to FL and back. Stopped at three club fields coming and going. Just long enogh to see fellow fliers in the area and short enough that she did not break the bank shopping. She got new clothes and I got a new plane.

Plus the EXTRA's

NO problem getting out to fly on Sunday afternoons

with two kids and 3 dogs that would be kind of tough for me to do even on the weekends plus i dont want to put my buddy out like that since he is doing me a favor on the price to begin with, a funtana 90 with all elecs in it in great shape for 125 is a great deal.
plus i hate driving long distances for anything nj to kentucky is a long way for both of us.

Here is what you do Buy sheets of cardboard 4X4 then make a box use alot of popcorn and news paper to pack it up well.then take it to a Office Max or similar store where the have a DHL center to ship from they will ship it cheap
If you take it to a DHL center by itself it will be more and online it will be more but from a office max or similar store it will be cheap to ship the plane
good luck

What would be the best way to ship a plane to the UK from the US? I might be moving there and want to bring my planes with me!

BTW one of them will likely have a one-piece, 80" wing.
