Default Do Dave Brown Foam Wheels Ever Puff Up Again?

I have a set of 5" Dave Brown lightweight foam wheels on a 16 pound Pitts. I transported the airplane in the back of my truck for about 150 miles when I moved on Sep. 10th. The wheels got flat spots on them.

This airplane has been hanging up with ropes in my bedroom. The wheels haven't touched the ground in about 3 weeks. They still have flat spots on them. They just won't puff up again and get round.

Are they ruined? Will they ever puff up again and get even remotely round? Soak them in water and then let them dry out?

It might take a few trips up and down the runway, but they will come back to normal. Most all of the foam wheels do this, some worse than others. I have a Seagull Extra that came with foam wheels and they look like they are flat after a day on the bench. Good Luck, Dave

I left my airplane for 6 days on the ground in my garage and the foam wheels developed that same flat spot you are talking about.
I couldn't care less, I just touched and went for three times the next day and it all came back to normal

I have foam wheels on a 24lb extra.
My plane sits on the wheels and always have flat spots.
Doesn't matter, Just fly. It will shake on the first or second takeoff and landing but after that, it is OK

So, I need to run them on the ground before they will puff up again?

Seams like just taking the weight off them would make them puff up. The plane is hanging in the air and the wheels haven't touched the ground in over 3 weeks now. Still got flat spots. []

Might be time to get some Sullivan wheels. [sm=tongue_smile.gif] While I'm at it, might as well order a new kit, and some servos, and an engine, and, and, and, and, and............ Gawd this is addictive!![8D]

I use foam wheels almost exclusivly; when carring planes in my truck I use a piece of blue foam about 2x6x8 inches with a curved groove carved/gouged to match the wheel. This also serves as a chock to keep them still. I make the groove at least as deep as the tire height at the bottom. If storing them on their wheels sit them on a piece of soft foam 1 inch thick.

Me too. Same wheels but 3.5" on a 12lb Pitts 12, still flat after weeks in the drawer. Surprised to hear they get round again after a few T.O's and Ldgs. The Sul. Skylights are staying round with the plane resting on them for the cost of a small weight penalty.
