Default NiCd peak charger as foam cutter power supply

A couple of months back there was an article/video clip of foam cutting using an Astro 112 NiCd peak charger, on E-zone. This looks like a neat method, as once you adjust the temp for a particular cutting wire and note the current, then you can set that current on the charger for any length of cutting bow that you ue in the future. Anybody tried this and have any views on the method i.e. use of other makes of charger other than the Astro 112. I have used my Astro 110 with sucess although the unit LCD display denotes a "no battery" statement which cancels when the start butten is pressed.

Simply hooking up a wire to a soldering iron will not produce enough throughout the wire to properly heat it enough to cut the foam.

Tony, try posting this question in the scratch building forum. You will get more educated answers in there, I bet.
