I will be between LA and Yuma in January and hope to find a field to fly at while there.

There's the Apollo XI field at the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys, CA. This field is part of the Los Angeles Parks and Recreations and is open to the public. No fees, club or AMA membership is required. I would recommend checking out the website by the San Fernando Valley RC Flyers for directions and to see if there are any events that may close the field to the general public. The field is in the San Fernando Valley, about 15 or so miles north of downtown LA where the 405 and 101 freeways meet.

One of the best fields found anywhere,is found just off the 60 FWy and Rosemead Blvd. Whittier Narrrows Park, the runway is located on the north west corner of the park. Exit off the 60 Fwy going north on Rosemead Blvd. and make the first left into the park. Follow the road around to the west side where you will find the runway. The guys there are friendly and are welcoming.

Yuma has a beautiful field. I'm not sure how to get there and last I knew there wasn't a hobby shop to get help from.
AMA probably has a contact.

El Centro, between San Diego and Yuma on Hwy 8, has a nice field and there is a hobby shop where you can get directions.
It is at the corner of Imperial Ave and Adams Ave - big intersection in that little berg.

There are several in the north of San Diego area - Fallbrook has a real nice field.
Several hobby shops in San Diego to get directions from.

Good time of the year for the Imperial Valley and Yuma - have a great time.

Thanks for the info. It's looks like there are plenty of fields to fly at. I am a member of MAAC (Model Aeronautics Assoc. of Canada) so an AMA field is good too.

I'm not a true 'Snowbird' yet but we do get down south for 6 weeks or so. We have been going to Tucson for the past 4 years but thought we would try a different area this year. Maybe into Mexico too. I do look forward to flying every day if I want.

A very popular spot in Mexico is Algadones near Yuma.
Very quaint and small compared to Mexicali or Tijuana.
I new a lot of people went there for their prescriptions.
Park in America and walk across.
I understand passports are now required.

Algadones is a great place to visit. I think better than Nogales or TJ but we are thinking of further south just haven't decided where.
