Default What's up with Dubro spinners?

Why do I have to carve the 2 1/2 inch spinner SOOOO much to clear my 12X8 prop on my 60 size engines? Am I using the wrong diameter? I'm gonna lose a finger one of these days.

Default Spinner carving

That does seem like kind of a small spinner to put around a 12x8 prop. But if thats what you need, thats what you need.

Do you use the APC props? That what I use and I always have to hack on the spinners to make them fit. I've given myself lots of unnessary surgery working on those things.

I think the main problem is that the prop is matched to the engine, while the spinner is matched to the plane .

Oh well. Let's be careful out there.

I believe that the new Sig spinners are manufactured to accomodate APC props without alteration, but I haven't seen one yet.

A small plane could require a 2 1/2" spinner, so the MFG's always cut the slots small to accommodate the smallest prop. Their logic is correct... YOU can make the hole bigger, but someone who needs a small hole can't make it smaller.

Or you can get Tru Turn to custom make one for you. When Marc (RCadmin) did the review of the UCD he had them make a 2 1/2 inch spinner that would accommodate an APC 15x6. I think they do the same thing everyone is talking about. Take a standard 2 1/2 inch spinner and enlarge the prop slots.

The March 2003 issue of Flying Models magazine has an article on how to make spinner cutouts by Michael Ramsey.

The Sig Spinner that I got with my Kadet fits APC props, but I can't find them anywhere... my LHS doesn't have them, nor towerhobbies. I'd probably have to buy it directly from SIG? The Tru-Turn spinners are too expensive for me, they make you buy and adapter too which adds up to too much. Are there any other adapters that fit APC spinners without modification?
