Finding CG on my YAK 54???
Hello, I recently bought a new Yak 54 72” or so on eBay and am having problems finding the CG. I guess this is what I get for buying off eBay, but to late for that. This airplane came with instructions, but the CG section has to be wrong. I have put a 40cc engine in it and all batteries up front. This baby still needs a lot of weight to be even close to the instructions on the CG. I guess my question is where to start on the CG? I would hate to have to experiment with it flying. I have put way to much time and money into it to just go fly. Somebody please help. I noticed somebody had posted a video of the exact same set up breaking in the engine today on member video post. How can I find out who posted it? Thanks

G'day Mate,
What does the instructions say about the CG, how far out from the fuse & how far back, from the leading edge, also you may need to check it inverted, instead of upright.
Also use this Calculator to check the CG position that came with your planes instructions.

The model came from Willhobby.com. The instructions say 120mm-130mm from the front of the wing. Picture shows airplane sitting up, not inverted. I will try to post a scan of the instructions. Also have pics. Thanks for your help.

G'day Mate,
That sounds about right, as a starting point, be aware, it is only a starting point, for the first few flights, if it is anything like most other aerobatic planes, you can go back, sometimes quite a long way from that point, to find the sweet spot.

Hey, ok. I will start with that. I was thinking of placing the batteries over the fuel tank. Is this possible or a bad idea. Would help the CG a lot. Thanks

dbacque, my plane is nose heavy, BIG TIME. I actually did the battery compartment on my Ultra Sport and worked out perfect. Wish this plane was nose heavy. I will make a mount for the batteries over the tank and will also add some lead to the front. Thanks for the help

Oh, is there a known nose cone that can be used to add weight or maybe one that is extra heavy? Any way to add useful weight.

Well, looks like I cant fit the batteries over the tank. Is it possible to put the batteries in the cowl with the motor? Will they get to hot?
