Default Something every Pilot should have on his/her desktop!

Hey,
I just found this software by the weather channel and i think that ever Pilot should have, and i'm sure some pilots do have it already. It's a software that shows:

•Current temperature continuously updated in your system tray
•Severe weather alerts that you can see and hear
•Complete current conditions (Like Windspeeds, Barometer)
•Local radar maps
•12-hour forecasts
•Convenient links back to weather.com
•Sunrise
•Sunset
etc.

It's very cool!

Here a picture of my desktop:

You need following requirment:
•Windows 95 or later (MAC OS currently not supported)
•128 MB memory; 5 MB hard drive space available

And you can get it here:
http://www.weather.com/services/desktop.html

CU!

Nope, it looks like you can get a free version but you have to go through a whole load of junk to get it.

The pay version has video too....

No it's free and it doesn't have any junk in it! Only on the right side you can get information about other companies.

I use WeatherBug, You can get the live weather for home or the field. Just type in the zip code and pick the closest reporting station. It will also warn you of severe weather heading your way.

http://www.weatherbug.com/aws/index.asp

It is free but they do have a WeatherBug Pro for a fee

Beware of that 'free' stuff, guys. It's usually ridden with spyware! They have to pay the writers somehow, and it's usually by writing spyware into it. I know Weatherbug is spyware/adware, not sure about the Weather Channel one.

Check for spyware with this free software.

Default Ya what he said...

And not to mention system memory hogs. And yes spyware also. Don't be taken by these cool little proggies out there. They don't cost money but they are by no means free.

Nice idea. Its a little too general, though.

When I lived in the States I stumbled across the "mesonet." This is a network of weather stations in specific area with a twist - the data is polled in realtime, stored to a central database and presented in graphical form on their website.

For example - slope soaring down at the Point was a treat, but I hated to drive 45 mins to get there only to find no wind. There is a mesonet weather station right at the foot of the mountain that I'd check before heading out.

Here's the graphical link:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Saltlake/current/meso.slv.html

Here's the (text-based, direct) link to the station in question: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Saltlake/UofU/UofU.UT7.html

A sample from today's data:
Code:
UofU Link Observations for: BLUFFDALE, UT
latest ZULU date and time (DDHHMMZ): 271930Z time

MST / wind (shorthand (kts)) / wind (direction/speed (mph)) / temp (F) / dwpt (F) / RH (%) / pres (in) / pcpn (in)
01:30PM 16018KT S 21 50 24 36
01:15PM 16019KT S 22 50 24 36
01:00PM 16020KT S 23 50 26 39
12:45PM 16021KT S 24 49 28 43
12:30PM 16019KT S 22 50 28 43
12:15PM 16019KT S 22 53 23 31
12:00PM 16017KT S 20 51 26 37
11:45AM 16021KT S 24 52 23 32
11:30AM 16019KT S 22 51 24 35
11:15AM 16021KT S 24 48 24 39
11:00AM 16020KT S 23 51 23 34
50 degrees, 20+ mph breeze coming from the south. Woo! I'd be leaving work early and taking some Fast Glass with me.

Of course, since I've moved here the weather is pretty consistent
