Default Crystal Capability????

Hobby People has a good price (as compared to Futaba) on the Hitec RCD 7 channel receiver. From the picture, It looks like model RDC3800. Thirty bucks.
http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/759148.asp
I have a couple of new Futaba crystals of the desired frequency lying around.
I know the receiver is compatible with my stuff but what about the crystal itself? Is it both physically and functionally suitable?
Thanks for the help!

Some will tell you it will work but my advice is to get a crystal from the reciever manufacturer, or decide if the plane you are putting it in is worth more than the 10 dollars a proper cyrstal will cost if you choose to experement.

I agree with Barracuda, it's not worth a couple of bucks to take the risk. Use the crystal made for that receiver by the manufacturer.

If you read further it tells you that you can use it with Futaba,Airtronics, Hitec etc.
I have three hitec receivers all 3800 and i use my futaba crystals with them.
If in doubt just give hitec a call.

This means that you can use the receiver with those radios. It DOES NOT mean you can use the crystals from other brands with this receiver. If you indeed are using crystals from other manufacturers with your receiver then you are playing russian roulette with your equipment. It might work sometimes, but you're taking a huge risk of losing control of your plane.

OK thanks for the good advice all. The Hitec receiver is half the price of the crystal-less Futaba (at Tower) and if I was going to place a Hobby People order anyway. A $30 is worthwhile - but if I can't use my crystals, it brings the cost of the Hitec up to about $40 so I would rather just pay the extra $20 and stick with the Futaba equipment. Thanks again.
