Smoke system on a 46 ?
I'm not very familiar with how smoke systems work. I have an Pulse Xt40 woth a OS .46 and stock P-Box muffler. Can I get a inexpensive smoke pump without having to switch mufflers and without having to mod anything too much? is it even practical ?
I was looking around Tower and saw the Macs Smoke system. here is the link http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXZ674&P=7 . I'm sure it probably wont create dense smoke like some of the other systems, but would it work ok ? From what I figure, i just have to tap the muffler and add a servo right?

Smalll 2 strokes are not ideal for moke but i guess if you get it just right with the perfict amout of oil you will get some smoke look at maybe pre heating the oil before it goes into the muffler thiough...

You can make just about anything smoke. All you need to do is get some oil hot enough to reach its smoking point. The challenge with a 46 is that they do not create a LOT of heat, and since the hot exhaust is blown out of the muffler on each stroke (As opposed to every other on a 4-stroke) the oil doesn't get much time to spend in the hot gasses.
I have never had time to play with smoke on a small 2-stroke but it's something I want to do in the future (If I ever get time! )
You can get an inexpensive pump here:

For lots of good info on how to make a smoke system work, read this article (The guy who wrote it must be a genius) :

PS, a 4oz tank won't give you smoke for a very long time, but it should give you a minute or two (Keep in mind that when you turn it on and off,, two minutes can be a long time - kinda like the last 2 minutes of a football game (American Football)

Trying to pack all the stuff you need into a 40 size plane can't be done and keep the balance right. The engine will not produce enough heat to make good smoke. 120 size is the smallest plane that will take smoke and 25% and larger with gas is the best. Dennis

MinnFlyer ,
Thanks for the Link !!! Great info there.
Like I said before, I'm sure it probably wont create dense smoke, its really just something to tinker with ! Thanks Folks !

RE: Smoke system on a 46 ?
Is there any special chemical/oil to be added to the fuel and generate enough dense smoke with small engines without the need of installing a pump, one servo, a tap to the muffler, ect...? I believe it exists.
It might be into the detriment of the engine performance, but who cares? The fun of having a dense smoke tracking your ways in the sky should be worth a few RPM.

What about 2 separated fuel tanks? One for engine start and take off, with usual fuel, and the other with smoke fluid for the rest of the flight.
Then the plane can be easily landed with the engine off.
Now the question is how to make a the second tank supply the fuel after the first gets empty in sequence and with no interruption.

I would think the engine would perform differently with smoke fluid added to the fuel. Might run lean w/ the smoke, and rich with the regular fuel or vice versa. point being i doubt you can get consistent performance trying to run different fuels.
