" Silron "???
i have recently come across a bunch of this stuff called "silron".. it seems that it's a 60's or 70's fabric covering.
i wonder if there's any-one who might know how to apply it ? does it shrink with heat ? can it be painted with dope?
i have covered with silk, and tissue, when i was a kid... but i don't even remember seeing any-thing like silron back then.
i lack knowledge in the department of covering with fabrics, but i would like to use this stuff on a recently completed zero.
just wondering if any-one has ever used it and knows what the specific applicatoin method is for this stuff.
thanks,in advance
any help would be apreciatted

RE: " Silron "???
this was from long ago I think royal or midwest distributed it a mixture of silk and nylon if I remember correctly.you had to soak the material in water so that it would expand in size then apply it like silk and as it dried it would shrink back to normal size.,trouble was that it would absorb moisture in high humidy and start to expand again and show wrinkles.if it was any good it would still be around.use at your own risk

RE: " Silron "???
I loved Silron and used it almost exclusivly for my RC aircraft. Back then I still preferred Silkspan for my Ukie stuff.
It can be applied just like silk but it does not have a heat sensitive adhesive and is not heat shrinkable in the sense of some modern products.
I found it more durable than pure silk in terms of longevity and rotting. Actually it was a more durable covering than silk all the way around and a little less expensive. It usually was a slightly tighter weave than some of the pure silk products.
Just went out and dug a little and found about 10 yards of Silron (no interest in selling) [8D]
