Anyone have a K&S Wire and Coil bender?
I have the early model of the K&S Mighty Wire Bender. I'm trying to see the difference between this model and the later one which winds coils. I would like to see if mine could be modified to wind coils. I have not been able to find a good close up pic of the later model to see the difference in detail. If anyone could post a close up pic or point me to such a pic I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Thinairflyer

Thinairflyer:
I wasn't aware they made an "all in one" unit. I have BOTH the Mighty Wire Bender AND the Coil Winder which are separate units. I can send a pic of both this evening if you would like. BTW, I have had both these units for close to 20 years so I am not saying they don't have an "all in one" - just I never saw one.

Yes, I sure would like to see the pics, maybe I'm mis-inforned.
The pics I can pull up on the 'net seems to show little grooved rollers on what is being called the 'Mighty Wire Bender and Coiler. Mine has just plain pins that are of equal height.
Thanks

I can't see the little things that look maybe like grooved rollers clearly in the pic at Tower Hobbies. Are they in fact rollers? My early model just has two pins of equal length on each part of the bender.
Correct that, the piece that goes in the vice has two pins, the lever has one pin the same length as the stationary part.

There's a slightly bigger, and different, picture at

Still cannot see a lot of detail

I've got one as pictured above. The grooved things do not roll, but do hold the wire in place as you coil the wire as for a nose gear. Tool works well. It is setup to coil wire but 90, 180, etc. degree bends can be done too. The machine will put a little coil into the wire. I do not have a copy of instructions as I lost them, I think there was something about setting the tool should you not want to coil. Works great for bending landing gear, elevator half connector, etc.

I have the K&S Mighty Wire Bender. It does an good job bending and coiling. It doesn't have actual rollers on mine, but rather a stationary grooved guide. To wind coils, I had to start the wire at a slight angle, so the coil would slip over the top of the wire as it came around. A steady pressure worked best.
This is a pic of the gear I made with it. It took me a couple of trys to figure it out.
