How do you get a PIZAZZ into a hover ?
I just bought a PIZAZZ with a OS 46 FX and I want to learn to hover.
My 2 questions are...
1. Is the 46 FX strong enough ?
2. How do you get the plane into a hover and keep it there ?
Thanks for the reply's

Post this in the FunFly forum... You likely to get alot more responses there...
The short answer is that the 46 fx will be a little weak to hover the Pizzaz... To learning to hover, make sure you're a good three mistakes high... chop the throttle, give it some up elevator to bring it verticle... Just before it stalls give it some throttle and you'll probably need some left rudder... after that it's a delicate juggling act to balance throttle and control imputs to keep it hangin'.
Good luck!

I agree...flown one on a 46FX, an MDS.58, and neither one had the uumph to hover. You can "hang" it on the prop with either one, but it's at 3/4 or better throttle, I think, because of the prop sizes associated with those two engines. Hanging it is not hovering...
I replaced it with the OS .70 4-stroke, and it hovers just fine, again, I think because of the bigger prop turning ability, as well as the torque.
Hovering takes a lot of short bursts of the throttle, so that your control surfaces get the advantage of the prop wash, to control the hover - the prop wash just isn't there with the .46 and .58, and you need to maintain throttle with those two, just to keep it in the air.
If you are going to concentrate on 3D, with the Pizazz, I would recommend either the OS .70 or Saito .72 4-strokes...
Just my $.02 worth...

hovering Pizzaz
I have a SAito .65 30% turning a 14X4 at 9200. This combo is working great and hovers at 1/3 - 1/2 throttle. Acceleration is immediate out of the hover. I only have ~15 flights on it so am still playing with cg and all but this plane seems alot more stable than my sudukoi but does not do tumbling manuvers as well.

I haven't tried mine with the Saito .65 I have - I might just drop it on there, and free up my OS .70 for something else...I just grabbed the OS, not even considering the Saito...that's what happens when you have too many engines!!! (yeah, like you can have TOO many engines!!)
Thanks for the info!!

saito .65 and Pizzaz
I have tried this engine on my sudukoi and the pizzaz and with 15% I could never get the throttle response as quick as is needed for hovering and after hanging on the prop for ~1 minute it would start to loose power.... 30 % fuel and it is a whole new ball game!!!.

How do you get a PIZAZZ into a hover ?
Hi Bravo:
I have flown two different Pizzaz's, set up 3 different ways. The first was with a 46fx.. It does not have enough power with this engine. The next two ways are both using 2 stroke 75 and 78 engines (Tower and MDS). This set up works really well. On mine, with the MDS 78, I am using a fairly aft CG(about31% of MAC) and using an 14-4 Zinger wood prop cut down to 13 1/8-4. This has been working really well for me so far.
On mine, I have found that using less than high rate control throws seems to work better for hovering manuvers.
Hope this helps.

You might be able to get enought power out of that 46 if you put a Mac's header and tunned pipe.... You get another 1000 - 1500 rpm.... enought to turn a 12.25 x 3.75 apc prop which is what you want for a 3D fun fly.....

My Avatar is of my 31% One Design, by Gene Payson, of Troy Built Models - it was his personal plane, and he has started the color scheme. I finished it when I bought it from him, and love it!!
Good luck, any more questions, feel free to PM or email me....

65 Saito
Thanks AKFLYER for the info. Just finished my Pizzaz one flight and was great. I had flown a friends and He is useing a YS63 that gives great perf. I was worried the 65 wouldnt cut it but I think its goin to be OK. I also will try 30% next week and reprop.
I did change to lighter gear and wheels as the originals are a chunk of weight.
