Default cal goldberg tailwheel assy

I`m installing this tailwheel assy. My problem is the spring part. I installed unit oer instructions, now its time to attach the springs. One end has a 3-inch lead wire the other end is flat,, the directions are not clear on how to attach the flat end to the horn or even the lead end, how is this done? Do I need tension on the spring? and how much tension . As you can see,,,,,, I`m really green at this. I have no clue.......Any help or pictures will help me lots I`m doig this on a LITTLE TONI.,,And soon on my Super Chipmunk. I1 also converting my SIG KADET SENIOR.

Thank a bunch.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

You need to bend both ends of the spring into a hook shape

And yes, you want tension, not a LOT, but enough that there won't be any slack. I would say that if you pulled the spring 1/4" that would be enough

Thanks for the comeback. The spring only has 1 wire,, the other end is flat, with no wire to make a hook. Its as though the spring was cut right at the coil. I have 3 sets of these tail-wheel units and they are all alike. I`m not quite sure how to hook the end with no protruding wire to make the hook.

Thanks again

Is this the tailwheel ? I bought one of these and experienced the same problem, never could figure out why they made it this way. I just uncoiled a bit of the spring and made a hook in it.

This is only the begining of your problems. Mine feel apart on different occasions and the springs kept streatching. By the time I modified it to hold up it looked nothing like the original. Goldberg used to market a Klett tailwheel and I thought this one would be similiar in quality but it wasn't. Never again [:'(]

Does anybody know of a good spring-loaded tail-wheel assy.? This Goldberg one that I have is going in the trash! I`m putting them on my Little Toni and my Super Chipmunk. I need a good reliable one that will stand up for good use.

Thanks Again ----JIM

This is what I'm using. Very simply, cheap and trouble free. You can get better but overall these are the best bang for your buck.

They also come in different sizes. Look around the tailwheel assemblies on Towers. I'm sure you'll find something.

Look at the tail wheels from JR Hobby Hardware. They are knockoffs of the original Klett. www.jrhobbyhardware.com I am installing on 72 inch Air tractor

Normally, I don't use the spring. I just let the wheel pivot freely ... I know the pic isn't the best, but I only had a few seconds ...The spring goes into the rudder then through the hub. Should be able to figger it out

CRAP!!! Don't look at the lawn mower in the background ... and the tall grass (in need of mowing). The wind has been calm the past few days (beautiful for flying) :P
It's a priority thing...
