Having moved up in plane size, I find myself using stronger servos demanding more power, so larger battery packs are needed for my digital demands. I'm using 5 cell 1800ma NiMH batteries. What quality charger do you recommend for this size and larger NiMH batteries?

On my smaller planes I was using the Hobbico Accu-Cycle chargers for the 600-1000ma batteries. But now with the larger packs, the 125ma charge rate is not quite enough. Looking for something with 150,175,200ma options.

So, what do you use\suggest?

G'day Greg,
I checked out the manual, for the Accu-Cycle, 125 Ma is fine for the pack you are talking about, slower charging is better for the packs than faster charging, the instructions say the high charge rate 125 mah, is fine for packs 750 to 1875 Mah.
So use it with confidence, & remember to cycle about every 2 months, to keep a check on your pack"s capacity.

G'Day Alan,

Long time no read!!! I know the specs say its good to 1875 or something, but when I charge the batteries, I'm only getting 1580-1610 on the discharge. The batteries I bought from hangtimes suggests a charge rate of 180ma .... Just testin the waters

The Accucycle Elite will go up to 2 amps, should be plenty of power. I've got one and I use it quite often. Works well.

I've heard that the accu-cycle tends to err a little on the low side. Not a problem if you check the battery when it's new to get a baseline number and use the same cycler to test it as it ages.

I haven't bothered, I use mine just as it is for my 1800 ma 6V NiMh packs. I know where they read and they've got tons of spare juice.

Good info for what I've got to work with. I had done some comparative analysis, and I knew 1 charger put out more than the other. This is great info on calibrating them and knowing what you have is accurately displayed..... Thanks, Greg
