Default Retract question

Which is the preferred unit, Spring Air or Robart?

I'm looking to put simple 90 degree 3/16 mains in my TF Spitfire.

Many thanks for any input!

Steve

This is just a WAG on my part, but i'm thinking the guys who like Spring Air will prefer them over Robarts, and the guys who like Robarts will prefer... well, you get the idea. I will stay tuned for the presentations!

epring airs only have one air line to run and have the fail safe if air pressure is lost.that being said I use both depending on cost and avaiability

I prefer Spring Air myself, as I like the fail safe feature. I have never had any failures with them. Good Luck, Dave

I'm thinking this safety feature is a major plus, run out of air and the gear will still come down is how it was explained to me. I have only ever built one craft and I installed B&D retracts in it. I'm just looking for honest opinions and experiences!

Thanx

H500E,

If you want simple and reliable get your self a set of the best mechanical retracts made bar none. These were designed by a regular on the forums that goes by Minflyer and are nearly foolproof. You can get them here:

Thanks for the plug Darren

I can recommend these because I gave the design to 3DX and I make no money from their sale. But as Darren said, I designed those several years ago when I got tired of the lack of quality in commercial retracts. And even if I do say myself, they are outstanding.

And as for Spring Air or Robarts... MY personal preferance is to skip any Pnumatics and use Mechanicals!

MinnFlyer,

Sory for spelling your moniker wrong. I just happened across an old thread when I was building a Direct Connection Hawker Sea Fury. I had used BD units in the past and wasn't thrilled with them but don't like all the extra aperatus involved with the air systems. The 3D mechanicals are simply outstanding. Wating for the production run held my project up for (ahem "a while") )but I'm glad I waited. Once I had the first set instaled I ordered a second and stowed them away for future use. Thanks for giving the design to 3D I appreciate it.

Darren
