Topflight Flat Clear & Sun Problems?
Aloha All, I have a Toflight Giant Scale Corsair. The balsa plane is covered in fiberglass and epoxy resin. I used Topflight Lusterkote Paints even though my first thought was to use automotive paints. In anycase, I used Insignia blue (TPR7508) for the upper side of the wing and top side of the fuselage. I also covered all surfaces with FLAT Clear (TOPR7500). My problem is the top surface of the wings, exposed to the sun has turned black- really black. It has to be the sun reacting to either the Blue or the Flat Clear coat. I'm sure it's a sun reaction because the area of the wing under the saddle, not exposed to the sun, is still the insignia blue it is supposed to be. It also only happens on the wing- not the fuselage which leads me to believe there was something wrong (or old) with one of the cans of paint or flat clear. This has been over a realtively short time- First flight and exposure to sun was only May this year.
Sooner or later I'm going to sand the top side of the wing back down and repaint, but I'd rather not repeat the same results.
Anyone have any similar experiences or suggestions?
