Default hydraulic system?

Just tinkering around. I was wondering if anyone thought of coming up with mini hydraulic system. instead of have to keep airing the system up. I pondered the idea but parts to build it seem hard to find.

I know it would require some sort of miniature pump (possibly connected to the engine in some manner) selector valve, lines, fluid tank

any ideas? just a thought maybe not even possible.

Default RE: hydraulic system?

It is a good idea and I have seen things in magazins about people trying to do this on scall planes but the set up when it was done a lot of $$$$$$ was in it and it came out to be very big on the LBS. It was cool and it was on a plane that did not fly cuz it was just to heave.

lines, pump, resivor, accumaltor, actuator, and fluid...not to mention a cooler means big time weight..you can't use water so you have to use hydraulic fluid skydrol is very nasty stuff if you had a leak you'd loose the covering..not to mention any glue....5606 or 83282A is nicer but then you have a leak you just soaked the wood...
might be nice as a display but I don't think it's practical

The simple answer is weight. Then to go on, why? Air seem to work very well and if there is a failure some air retracts will automaticaly go to gear down.

You have a built in air pump use it. Just put a one way valve on the engine vent and a pop off valve on the air tank.

Default RE: hydraulic system?

then its not a hydraulic system.... it becomes a pnuematic system... less weight, you lose the weight of the fluid, cooler, resivor, and possibly the accumulator.....if you had a good pump and an airframe that woud support the weight you might have a good deal here...
less servos means less drag on the batteries,,,,,
down side would be a leak
