Monokote Matching Paint
Hey people,(I hope that's politically correct, maybe there's some Ladies logged in here.)
I'm looking for some paint to match Metallic Wine, Metallic Purple
and Bright Yellow Monokote
Lusterkote doesn't have any matching colors for their metallics,
and their yellow match........Well it's not very close.
The closest match I have found is Black Baron's Epoxy(9004 Lemon Yellow) and do they still make that stuff?
Maybe someone has an idea where I can get some paint
Hope you can help,
Bob

RE: Matching paint
Hello Bob,
Try going to a Auto Parts store in your area and see if they might have car touch up paint in small spray cans. Or you might try a Body shop and see if they can match what you want with PPG paints.

Ditto.
I have tried TF lustrkote and it sux. I have the body shop mix a computer match and have always been right on. I the TF paint wasn't in the same park. I am colorblind and I could see a huge diff. My friends all think I need to repaint the cowel. I tell them it is my reminder never to use TF paint again.

Thanks Nedyob,
I checked one of the local body shops, they wanted to do this in
base coat clear coat and said it would be well over a hundred
bucks for about four pints of paint. A little steep for me.
And there's no shelf life on mixed material. well maybe a little
by putting it in the freezer. (I used to do that with Hobby Poxy
paints)
Does anyone know if the Coverite Black Baron paint is still manufactured? I can't find it in the Tower Cat.
It's not very easy to apply, you have to be careful it will run quite
easily.
I guess I'll keep looking.
By the way, Plastikote has a very good match for the metallic blue
Monokote...their #311 Blue Metal Flake
Thanks, Bob

TopFlite does make Lustrekote in metallic plum and several other metallics. I've used several colors with good results but most colors need to be applied over a white base to get a close color match.

Stick Jammer ,
I used Lusterkote's white primer.
I haven't seen the metallics listed in their color charts.
I'll have to look closer.
Thanks, Bob

You'll pay a top price going to an auto paint shop and having them match a small quantity of paint to a scrap of monokote.
The CRRC site has an article on the "formulas" of paint to match Monokote and Oracover:
http://www.charlesriverrc.org/articl...paintmatch.htm
You'll have a lot better luck going in with the formulation to buy a quart or so of the paint.

It is well worth going to the auto store to get your paint mixed. Mine puts it in a rattle can for me. It may cost $2 to $3 more per can, but the color matches every time and it is fuel proof. The lusterkote has yet to make a color match no matter what dance you do first, what primer you use, or what temp you spray it at. Lusterkote is good to shoot at if you want a good effect when you hit it, but other than that, it is pretty worthless stuff if you want to match color.
