Default How can I tint my canopy??

I have a clear canopy and would like to tint it gray or blue, but not so dark that I can't see in the cockpit. Can anyone help me?

Your LHS if they support R/C cars have numerous transparent finishes that are made for the lexan/clear bodies. Using this paint you can finish your canopy from a light coat to a dark finish..many colors are available. Tamiya and Pactra have numerous colors. Page 275 of Towers catalog. Also if you want to show support detail paint it first with silver by hand. Paint from the inside of the canopy thus no fuel-proof problems and you keep the glass look of the exterior.

Immerse the canopy in a solution of Rit Dye with a bit of salt and vinegar added. Navy Blue yields purple. I haven't figured out gray or blue yet. I am told black yields orange. Nothing's ever easy.

I don't use the salt or vinegar, (I save that for fish and chips) and I get a blue canopy from Blue Rit Dye.

Haven't tried black, but Rit Dye works great. Just soak the canopy in the warm dye until you have the amount of color you want.

I have used black to tint it dark, just don't leave it in too long. Also make sure the temp is not too hot. You can deform the canopy. It looks great when it is done.

My experience has been black yeilds a dark grey depending on how long you leave the canopy in the solution of RIT dye and the temperature of the water. Dark blue dye has given a dark blue to purple color, again depending on the amount of time and temperature.

What color would give me a light blue color? I was thinking light blue and a bit of yellow.

Yeah, I got a beautiful blue tint with blue RIT in warm water -- no salt or vinegar.

Try it on the canopy trimmings first.

Just put camopy in very warm water with the color of Rit dye you choose. I found out that liquid dye worked better for me. JUST LEAVE IT IN UNTIL YOU GET THE SHADE YOU WANT.
