Default Flicking the prop counter clockwise and it starts in reverse?

I'm having problems starting my Inverted Magnum .28, When ever i flick the prop counter clockwise from the compression stroke it'll start in reverse. I could tell because i could see the grass infront of the proppeller being pushed forward.

I have an engine (Moki 2.10) that I routinely flip backwards. Then it starts in the proper rotation. What is happening is that the "pop" happens before top-dead-center and then the direction is reversed.

try flipping it backwards like I do. Or get an electric starter. Sometimes when an engine starts backwards, you can get it to change direction by pulling the throttle back so low that it almost stops. Sometimes they actually reverse direction and start running the "right" way.

If you push the throttle up, it will swich to run the right way.. You are giving it to much prim.. the best way that I have fund to start one like that is to grab the spinner and give it a twist in the wrong way. It will start to run the right way right off the bat.

It does this even when i don't prime the engine with any fuel.

Try using an electric starter.

ORIGINAL: ReKLiS

It does this even when i don't prime the engine with any fuel.

A couple of problems newbies often have............................

They don't flip the prop at the right location.
They don't flip the prop with enough force. (which is usually related to 1)

And when they don't do the above, the engine often starts backward if at all.

It really helps to bolt the prop so it is oriented "good". What is "good"? So that when the prop is rotated around, it comes to compression at 2/8 o'clock. Some people like 1/7 o'clock. Some like 3/9. You match it to your strength and the way you flip the prop for starting. Fiddle around with it after reading all this and you'll see what you like best. With a good orientation, when you do flip the prop, you're actually putting most of your strength and effort into the engine/prop right when it needs the prop to be pulled through the greatest resistance. You're going to be pushing the prop right through the place where the engine can best push back. And you're going to win the pushing match. And as your chicken stick leaves the arc, the prop is going to be past the tough part and more easily building momentum IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. Taaa daaa........ (or maybe more like: bbrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRR)

As for the force..... may it always be with you......... and if you tighten the prop on in the right orientation, it will be. And to help even more, when you flip, flip it with some force. How do you ensure that? Well, you sorta push the prop around with the chicken stick until it comes up against that 2/8 o'clock resistance you so carefully setup. And as you feel the compression coming, you know to put effort into the flip NOW. It takes a touch. Almost everything we do takes some feel or technique.

You want to start with a chicken stick? that's a good way to do it.

BTW, nobody has mentioned this, BUT..............

Inverted engines have a special deal that's often a problem. They can fill up the combustion chamber with raw fuel. And you're in deep weeds then. They really take an extra effort and close observation to insure it doesn't happen. It can happen simply from fueling too fast. It'll happen easily with finger choking. And you can't see it happen. You just have to learn your engine/aiplane combination, how it responds to the things you do to get the tank fueled and the engine ready to start.

YES !!!! Replace the prop !!! A damaged prop can come apart and send all kinds of parts flying. ENJOY !!! RED
