Default The "Big B", my sons first trainer

Today is my son Benjamin's 5th birthday. Several months ago at the F3A championship here in Argentina my flying buddy asked me when I was going to teach my son to fly. So we came up with the idea to have him a plane ready for his 5th birthday. After several months of working a few afternoons a week in his shop we completed the "Big B"

Its scratch built and based loosely on the plans of the QB Monster. Its power by a Magnum 91 4 stroke. Length 60", wingspan 92", cord 14", weight 9.5 lbs. 2 piece wing with flaps and removable horizontal stab.

It was my first scratch build and probably my last. It took forever to build.

To top everything off we even had a plane shaped cake with the same design.

What age did you teach your kids to fly?

Here's a pic of me and my flying who helped me build the Big B. Hope to maiden on Sunday if the weather holds up.

I eventually plan on adding a few mods to the plane to help keep his interest. First, I am wanting to add smoke to the plane. Then maybe a bomb drop or trap door. That way if he looses interests while learning to fly, I can fly around and he cut cut the smoke on and off and open the trap door. My only limitation right now is number of available channels.

I am teaching my daughter right now, she turns 12 in October... She is learning basics on real flight now and we will move it to the club as soon as it dries out.
