Default What engine should I use?

I am putting together a lion model 50" wingspan christen eagle biplane It calls for a .60 two stroke, However, I read on the threads someone that ran a supertiger.90 and said it was not all that great. My question is this. I wan''t to go gas I really like the idea of electronic ignition=reliability and no mess. I have access to a zenoah g23. Would weight be a problem. I have a lot of experience with nitro motors 4 strokes included. What gas motor would you guys suggest for this plane. It has 744 sq. inches of wing area. Thanks

a g23 is a brick! 51 oz no muffler

No matter what you do in this size model your going to take a beating on performance.

That said take a look at a few of the following

moki/mark 1.8 gas
brisson
Brillelli
zdz

Take a look at those offerings and im pretty sure youl find lower wights... or maybe the same wight but with more power...

Gas really isn''t an easy option with a model that small. You''re going to take quite a weight penalty moving to gas and the power to weight ratio is much less. I personally wouldn''t mess with gas unless you''re in the 1.2+ glow engine range.

If a 90 is underpowered you would probably be better off with something like an OS 120AX. It weighs about the same as a 60-90 but with a lot more power.

I have a difficult time believing that an engine with 1.5x the displacement recommended is underpowered. I suppose it's possible, but I've never seen a recommendation on the box that resulted in a poorly flying model.

It depends when the kit is from, in the past there power to wight ratios were much lower than now...

It probably WILL fly with the recommended engine, now will it have the rocket like verticle we all enjoy.. probably not...
