That's your call. I've thought about doing the same. If it's the plane you want and you want it to look different why not?
practical - hobby...?

Well what company makes it ? Edge or extra and how much?

G'day Mate
It looks like a Precision Aerobatics Edge 540, I have flown one with a DA50 in it, they fly beautifully, very stable, & extremely aerobatic, at the same time.
Designed in Australia, too.

RE: Tell me I'm not insane....
Its a Seagull Brand Edge 540. She should fly great although I can already see its gonna need some going over as there seems to be very little glue in all the joints and with a tiny bit of pressure I've already cracked loose one the the hood catches. I hate to recover it right away as many would say "fly it awhile to see if your gonna like it or crash it,then recover later after it shows some wear",but I'd rather do it now before the hinges and all that are glued in. Heres the look I'm going for......the neon yellow and blue one.

Do what you wanna do! I have seen ARFs that need recovering right out of the box. Don't wait until it flies, geez, that's just wasting time, you want to recover it anyway. No time really wasted, 'cause it wouldn't be the plane you wanted to fly anyway. (Color and trim wise.) Bottom line--MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY!--That's what it comes down to.

RE: Tell me I'm not insane....
do what you want, but i would definitely call you crazy for pulling that pretty 'kote off! i have a twist coming next week with the purple and yellow covering (yuck) but that is the only color the arf comes in and i do not want to start another build right now as i am in the middle of a piper cherokee 1/2a i wanted to have this small piper as my first kit build but looking at it now right in the middle of the build it is most likely a more difficult build than a larger scale plane as these are small lightweight balsa pieces that are fragile and i have to be fairly precise! but anyway i think pulling that cover off would be an insane thing to do but i suggest just to do what you want!

I guess I am insane also. I finished removing all of he scheme on a Cermark Pitts 25% last night. I am sanding and repainting the cowl and wheel pants and clipping the wings right out of the box. As said above, it is part of the hobby and you will enjoy the plane more. Enjoy the recovering!

Here's a question for you...
If you are not happy with the Covering and you are going to remove it, plus the construction is poor so you'll reglue every joint... why did you buy an ARF? []
Why didn't you just buy a kit and build it to your high standards in the first place?
If you want a great plane - you have to build it yourself.

RE: Tell me I'm not insane....
The reason I chose to go with the seagull is because....
A) Its the right size. There arent many 540's that are in the high 60 inches, low 70 inches range that will still use a .90 sized engine (or a 1.00-1.25 4 stroke in my case). And thats what I was looking for.
B) The reviews on it seem to be excellent.
C) Its cheap! I almost went with the goldberg Edge(which I liked better, plus it looked cool out of the box),but it was $340 compared to my $175.
D) I would have liked to build a kit,but finding one is about impossible.
.....Overall its going to be a good plane I think, its just gonna need some special attention like any ARF should have. And on a side note.....it smells different than any other plane I have

RE: Tell me I'm not insane....
Well............ not totally insane for wanting to make changes. In fact, I made changes to my Seagull Edge. I actually added dark chordwise strips to the wing underside for ease of orientation. But, after seeing the color scheme you want to change it to, I dunno....

Well,of course I had to rip off all that new covering [] And I got the wings done. Whata ya think?
P.S....Neon Monokote sure is pretty, but it doesnt work nice AT ALL!! The Metallic Blue is also monokote. I'll use mono when I have to,but give me Ultracote anyday!!!!

RE: Tell me I'm not insane....
Your insane? That is cool. There is alot of grate people that was insane. But the way I see it. It is your money, your plane, your time,
and your choices. It is our choices that makes us who we are not our spelling. oops I meen now what othere people say we should do or have to do. You choices to do that is one thing you can say is truly yours.
I have done it but I had 1 or 2 flites on it. I saw there was 3 plans just like mine at the club. doing it cuz there was plans there just like mine was insane. You did it cuz you did not like the way it look. I think that was a good choices.
And it was alot faster to do then doing a kit.
But that is just me

Tear that crap off! Start over and have a great time doing it! Your not insane, you have depth to your personallity, the thought of having just another Seagull Edge 540 simply doesn't appeal too! I applaud your independance!
