Which do you prefer and why ?

Coverite is my choice. But I have never used Solartex. Stronger than film and very hard for bubbles and wrinkles to form and goes on with little heat. Disadvantage: Wish they had more color choices and fabric frays easily when cut.

I prefer Solartex for the reasons stated above. Lots of colors, paitable with latex. Very easy to use and very tough. Having said that now I use Koverall on my larger planes.

Stay away from coverite , After a little age it becomes very tacky. I had to recover a 1/3 scale cub because of that .I use solar tex it is great stuff .Coverite is also heavy compared to solar tex or coverall

Horizon sells Solartex re-branded as Worldtex. I have been using it a lot over the last two years or so. It is fantastic stuff. It will iron around curves with ease and will not bubble or sag like plastic film. I really love using it.

Best of all, it takes dope and other paints very well.

Whether you buy Solartex from Balsa USA or Worldtex from Horizon, you'll be pleased.

I'm glad to hear Solartex is good, I have 4 rolls ready to cover a project.

However, the BUSA ΒΌ scale Cub I covered in 2003 with Super Coverite is not "tacky", whatever that means. The covering has not lifted, nor is it sticky, nor has the painted black lightning bolt changed. I have not needed to tighten up the covering anywhere and I cannot see that the color has changed. I don't see any fraying. I was told the woven texture would fill with oil and dirt, but it has not, and cleaning has been easy enough for me.

If you are not painting SolarTex (or any of the "Tex's), I strongly suggest giving the finished airframe a coat of clear.

The clear coat does a couple of things.

1st, it seals the edges of any decals so fuel doesn't get under them.

2nd, it provides a smooth flowing finish with no demarkation lines where deals are

3rd, the weave of the Tex's is more open than Coverite. Because of this, it picks up dirt and grime easier. While this can be cleaned by scrubbing with a fingernail brush, I have found that light colors (white, yellow, etc) never seem to get as clean as I would like. The clear coat makes cleanup as easy as if you had a film covering.

Mode One

I've used Super Coverite since the early 1980s and have loved the stuff! However, it is no longer available and I have no experience with Coverite's newer materials. I have an Oly II sailplane that is 30 years old with Silkspun coverite on the fuselage with never a wrinkle and has had literally no maintenence work done to it since it was applied. I have RCM trainer with a wing covered in Super Coverite that is 30+ years old and it's fuselage is 27 years old that the paint is pealing off of, but the covering is tight and adheared to the surface like the day it was applied. Like I said however, none of these Coverite products are still available, so my point is moot!
