Default glow starter

Has anyone ever made a home made glow plug starter? And if so, how is it done. Thank you

I did for an airplane that I didn't want to cut the cowl too much for. It had a single battery holder for a rechargable AA battery and had two wires with small alligator clips coming off of it. You hooked one clip to the plug and another to a metal piece of the engine.

Why do you need to make one when a plug lighter with charger can be bought for as little as $13?

I made one using a D size ni-cad battery that I happened to have lying around. I just soldered the wires from a Du-Bro glowplug clip on to the ends of the battery and then wrapped it with electrical tape. Works pretty well.

I made one out of a glow plug clip and a cheap multimeter from harbor freight. It has the advantage that it meters the glow current and provides volts, ohms and other standard multimeter options. See details on my club's tips and tricks webpage.
