Default Need new propeller - what kind should I buy?

Hi guys.

So, I need a new propeller. The one I have is a 10 x 6. Would it help to get a propeller with a different pitch? And should I get a two bladed one or one with more blades?

Also, is there a way to buy metal ones? That way I wont break it every noob landing I have

EDIT: Yeah about the pitch and everything I had done enough research to understand what the second number meant and I changed it literally 15 seconds before you posted.

You don't say what engine you're needing the prop for....anyway the 1st number is the length and the second number is the degrees of pitch....seeing as you had a 10 in prop I'm gonna guess you have a .40 or .46 engine.....if it's a 40 I'd go with a 10X6 or 10X7...if it's a .46 then I'd go with an 11X7....I don't like wood props on smaller glow engines I like APC props......

Use Master Airscrew 10x6 or 10x7 as stated in other post, The master airscrew props flex more than the APC props, so they don't break as easily. They don't make metal props, just think whirling knife blades.

Not enough information as to what size/type engine and what type airplane to many any recommendations.

Actually not only are metal props not made as mentioned but use of metal props is specifically outlawed in the AMA safety code.

Master Airscrew props are the most useful for new folks and these will take the most ground strike punishment.

I thought so too John, but they are only banned from competition.

Hi!
.40 engine means its capacity is.40 cubic inches or 6,5 cubic centimeter in the metric world!

For a high winged trainer a 11x5, 11x6 or 12x4 " prop are much better than a 10x6 . Best prop brands are RAM, APC and Graupner Cam-prop or the new Graupner G-Sonic props!

In a crash a metal prop might survive, but it may destroy the engine.

a metal prop will not survive a crash.

What is the brand of prop you have/had now.

Do not run a 11x7 on a 46 lol way to much prop. yes it will spin it but only around 10,000 rpm.

here are your choices if want to stay with a 10" prop
APC 10x6
Master Airscrew 10x7 = a 10x5 APC but with more blade area.

For a trainer plane the best is a 11x5 APC

Graupner 10 x 6 is good if you tend to clip the ground.

Breaking props is part of the r/c hobby........just like hitting golf balls into the pond is part of golfing.
I wish I had a dollar for every prop that I have broken in the last 30 years...I try all different kinds......still like wood the best.
