I don't see how it would be worth the money unless you fly for five hours a day and have ten airplanes programed into your transmitter. I have a friend who did the same thing. He typically flies three of four flights each visit to the flying field. When I askes why he spent 150.00 to upgrade his transmitter battery he said it was to get more flying time. Go figure!!!

I'm doing this because i can get the lipo cheaper then the oem replacement battery for my transmitter. so i dont want to mess up my transmitter by doing this and having to buy an new one

I put a 11.1v 2500mah in my RDS8000 for $40 plus shipping and it works fine. I've read we're some Radios, and I'm thinking it might have been the Spectrum radios, don't work well with them.

I would look at a big NiMh first.
LiPo will cause your voltage alarm to no longer function.. the LiPo would be 3s2p 11.1V, typically, so by the time it drops to 8.8 or whatever your alarm is set at it is WAY too late. You have to watch your voltage on your TX display carefully.
Been there done it. Lipo works great, but I still think I would rather have my alarm working properly.

Yep, just watch the voltage. 9.5 volts should be fine as a low point, but since the radio will run forever, just throw it on the charger after a day's flights and be ready for the next day or weekend.

It is also recommended you DON'T charge the battery in the transmitter.
That sounds like a lot of extra work to me.
Aftermarket replacements in NiCd or NiMh are about $20.
Good Luck,

The disadvantages outweigh the only advantage.

What manufacturer of LiPo TX batteries says it is ok to go to 9.5V on your TX display with their battery?
I know it ain't Duralite, cause that's what I have. Your "no-fly" voltage should be whatever the manufacturer says it should be. TX batts are nothing to take chances with...

From Duralite:
11.1 Volt Li-ion Packs reading off Transmitter

Stop Fly
—10.8 volts

Fully charged
—no load - 12.4 - 12.6 range
