The Dx5 is a little on the cheesy side in my opinion. It feel very cheap and the one I messed with took 4 AA batteries. For those reasons, I would lean toward the DX6i although I have never had personal experience with it. I do own a DX-7 and I love it.

i have the dx6i. it is agreat radio. a lot of features for a six channel. you will need the sixth channel eventually anyway for aileron
mixing using seperate channels and possibly flap and retracts in the future . hope this helps andrew wisc.

The DX6i also take only 4AA batteries.

I have had both in my hands and would go with the dx7, I think its a much better radio. I've heard of some problems with the dx6i. Have not seen the dx5, if its built like the dx7 it would be alright.
