Do You Know The Name Of This Plane?
Do you know the name of this plane?
So far I have asked some of the old timers in our club and no one seem to know for sure.
I recently bought this plane from the manager of a local hobby shop. He received it from a kid who inherited all of his uncle's planes when he passed away. The kid gave it to manager as thank you for helping him learn to fly RC. The manager sold it to me for $100.00 because we are friends and he only flies electric.
The engine is an OS 40. It came with a long home made tuned pipe that went down the side of the plane. I didn’t like the fit of the pipe and installed the black pipe seen it the pictures. It is defiantly a kit or scratch built.
Thanks,
Shubova

It is somewhat reminiscent of the R/C Nobler of days gone by...
...With a tail-wheel... like the control-line version.

I have to correct my self it is the Magnum 40. it does look like an old Nobler. It has a "coke bottle" airfoil.

It looks like a Maricardo to me. Kitted by a Scottsh model shop in the 70s and plans are still available.

Since the Nobler was mentioned have some fun:
http://digilander.liberio.it/ucontro...2000/build.htm
I haven't built this yet but have built ones like it. As a tip, reinforce with main wings with balsa strips for a spar and copy on to glossy photographic paper. I plan to double the size and make the fuselage bulkherds out of 1/16 balsa. Elmer's Glue Sticks and CA (super) glue works well. These plans are cool enough to build a 1/2 A from.

Wow that was fast. w8ye it looks like you are nailed it.
I see your name in many other threads. I just noticed you have Moderator under your name. What does that signify? Do you work for RCU? Its okay with me I'm just curious.
The Maricardo is similar but seems smaller and the canopy looks squared off.
It does look exactly like the RCM Magnum 40. This might be a better find that I thought. There may not be too many of these around.
I never thought that I would do this with any plane but now that I know how unique it is I might have retire it or just not fly it much.
I had small kit built Kadet that I bought from a club member. He was selling it for the widow of another RC old timer but I wreck it. It turned out to be a really fun plane, so I was very sad when it died. I guess all old planes die just like their builders.
I flew it last Sunday. It is very quick and nimble, and very stable. I didn't have to add to much trim. The landing was quit exciting. It didn't want to slow down and took the entire runway to land it. But I'm sure I can get it with some practice.
The guy that built this plane did a very good job. I'll have to do my best not to wreck this one.
Thanks for the responses guys.
